How to Get Rid of Head Lice

Head lice infestations can be one of the most miserable and inconvenient situations a family can have to deal with. There are several steps to getting rid of head lice.

The first step is to kill the baby lice (nits) and adult head lice. This step can be difficult and complicated because head lice have developed resistance to some pesticides. Getting rid of adult lice is a necessary step because it helps break the cycle of life of head lice. Use natural products, home agents such as olive oil, mayonnaise or petroleum jelly (Vaseline) for head lice. These work by asphyxiation and make it easier to sort out the nits and lice. The substances are thick and viscous, slowing lice and making them easier to catch and pluck. Vaseline, olive oil and mayonnaise are options that can be used by the whole family.

The second stage in the process of getting rid of head lice is to remove all the nits (eggs). To effectively remove the nits, you have to switch between manual removals and using a very thin nit lice comb removal. Do not skip this step, since the failure of the life cycle of head lice is the most important part of treatment for lice infestation.

Third, after initial treatment, you need to work on the environment. Clean the house and the things which are commonly used, as in the bathroom and bedroom of the infected person. Strip the bed and clean all the beds in the hot cycle of the laundry. All brushes, combs and towels must be cleaned and disinfected.

If you follow these steps for head lice removal meticulously, you should be able to control the outbreak and get rid of head lice for good!

Yup, the eggs are the hardest part. Even the shampoos at the stores don’t kill the eggs, they get MOST…and I say most…not all of the adult lice, but can’t get through the barrier the eggs have on them. They are hard to penetrate. I also agree with your statement that cleaning your home is a MUST…

We had to do all those steps too, and if we didn’t take care of the lice in the home, it would have come back again! So thanks for mentioning it.
