</style><p>There are lots of ways that everyone is familiar with to lose weight in general, but a lot of people are interested specifically in how to get rid of belly fat. Is that possible? Is it really possible to target a specific place on your body like your belly?</p>
<p>Of course it is! However, the answer is not to do a million crunches. Of course, any exercise you do is going to assist in your weight loss efforts, but to lose belly fat in particular, follow these steps:</p>
<p><strong>1) Avoid Trans Fats:</strong> Trans fats are the killer of any belly-flatening efforts you undertake. Trans fats actually increase belly fat according to a recent study by Wake Forest University. They should be easier to avoid now that food manufacturers are required to list trans fats on labels!</p>
<p><strong>2) Get Plenty of Sleep:</strong> Did you know that getting less than four hours of sleep every night makes you seventy percent more likely to be obese than those who get nine hours? Studies have shown this time and time again. The reason for this is that the chemical leptin, which acts as an appetite suppressant and lets your brain know that you are full, is decreased by sleep deprivation. It can also lower insulin, which helps the body to regulate your blood sugar.</p>
<p><strong>3) Manage Your Stress Level: </strong>Some of the worst chemicals for your body when it comes to losing belly fat are adrenaline, cortisol and insulin &#8211; and those are precisely the chemical that are released by stress. There&#8217;s even a double whammy effect with cortisol &#8211; it&#8217;s correlated with increased appetite and fat production, and that fat deposits itself specifically around the belly area.</p>
