Credit card debt is a constant problem, since the card was created in 1950. People have gone into debt at a breathtaking pace. Many of them are in an unsustainable debt burden which is impossible to repay.

Is credit counseling for you?

If you are in a situation to pay all of your bills and are caught up on all of your financial obligations, then you probably do not need credit counseling. If your interest rates are too high, it is usually possible to establish a lower rate from your credit card company negotiating credit card simply by asking or threatening to move your account elsewhere.

Normally, the credit counseling services assist you to with discussing lowering your payments with the credit card company.

You need the advice of credit counselors if:

1) You’re always too late or seriously deficient on any of your bills. If you are too seriously deep in debt, credit counseling will not help to be able to successfully negotiate with the company for credit card payment. If it’s warranted, bankruptcy might be the best of bad options. Still, get the advice of a professional to find out what your best options are.

2) If you have huge credit card debt and creditor harassment calls. It would be a good idea to recruit some help in dealing with your situation if this is the case. Going through the process of credit counseling, you have a better picture of the opportunities for you to get rid of your credit card debts, and you subscribe to a repayment plan, which gives you the best chance of getting out of your situation.

Are you currently drowing in debt? Are you going out of your mind trying to figure out what you can do? Asking everyone you know what they can tell you about how to get rid of debt?

It’s not unusual in difficult economic times like these that people are struggling under their debt load and looking for ways to get out from underneath it. Especially now that it’s been made more difficult to declare bankruptcy, people are looking for more and more ways to get out of debt.

Here are the two main tips that will help you more than anything, and make sure that you get out of debt as quickly as possible.

1) Focus on One Bill at a Time: If you have four bills you are trying to pay off, and $100 extra dollars over and above the minimum payment to put towards them every month, don’t put $25 towards each. That will get you nowhere fast. Rather, choose the bill which is closest to being paid off, or which has the highest minimum payment relative to how close you are to paying it off, and focus on that one bill. Pay the minimum payment on the other three, and put the entire extra $100 a month towards that one bill. When it is paid off, then take the extra $100 a month PLUS the minimum payment amount of the bill you just paid off, and apply that new extra amount to the next bill of your choosing, while still paying the minimum payment on the other two. Proceed this way until they are all paid off!

2) Increase Your Income: Of course, sensible money management and debt paying techniques may only get you part of the way. You may need to take a good, hard look at your financial situation and realize that the only long term answer is to increase your monthly bottom line. If that’s the case, look at getting a second job. Of course, in this job market, that’s much easier said than done. However, if you do something for work that lends itself to consulting on the side, you’re in luck! Economic climates like this one are perfect for consultants, many of their companies are doing better than they ever have!

If your career, doesn’t fit that, or if you have particular scheduling needs, check out Job-From-Home.com. That site is made especially for people who are looking for part-time or fulltime employment out of their homes.
